The Riviera Maya is a tourist area of Mexico, located along the Caribbean Sea, in the state of Quintana Roo. Geographically it extends along the coast, from the town of Isla Blanca in the north, to the town of Punta Allen in the south, about 140 km in length. It is located in the eastern part of the Yucatan Peninsula. It consists of the youngest federative entity in the whole country, since it reached the state hierarchy only in 1974.
It is considered that La Riviera Maya started the town of Puerto Morelos, which is located 35 km south of Cancun, and extends to Felipe Carrillo Puerto, deep in the Sian Ka’an biosphere reserve. It is estimated that it has around 405 international class hotels, 5 stars and other categories, which offer at least 43,500 rooms. Most are complex with All Inclusive system.
